For years or even decades, construction workers have gotten a bad reputation.  Not until recently, has the public started to realize just what great people construction workers are.  Acknowledging their good deeds, their blood and sweat, and how they are making a difference in other’s lives, has become the norm.

Perhaps you are one of those underappreciated construction workers, or you are looking for additional ways you can make a difference.  Here are a few ways you can put your skill to good use and enrich other’s lives:

  • Animals – the construction site is no stranger to animals, however, often these animals get stuck or hurt. Many construction workers arrive to work daily to find deer, dogs, cats, and more stuck in mud, stuck in a hole they fell into, or even caught in materials.  Fortunately, you can help save these animals with your knowledge and tools at the construction site.  You may not make the local paper, but you will feel great after saving the life of a trapped animal.
  • Children – you have probably seen construction workers in the news regarding making children’s day’s a little better. For example, many construction sites have been playing where’s Waldo with children, they donate their time to build parks and playgrounds for children, and they donate time to make wishes for children come true in a variety of ways.  Children often have a soft spot in all of our lives, but especially construction workers.
  • Homes – many construction workers donate their time to their communities by helping build and repair homes for families in need and veterans. So many projects have materials donated, but they often have trouble finding skilled construction workers that are able to donate their time to oversee and help with the project.  This is a good way to give back to your community.

Construction workers are great people.  Take the time to give back in a way you feel comfortable.  Make sure that you add your contributions and volunteering work to your resume – hiring managers want great community providers on their team too.
