Many job candidates today have realized that by taking on an apprenticeship, they have a better path to receiving a full-time job offer, in the industry they want to work in.  While many candidates do not want to “waste” their time with an apprenticeship, they must realize that hiring managers in the construction industry today are looking for candidates that are very skilled, and skilled in a variety of areas.

Hiring managers look at apprenticeships as a trial run, and extended interview.  Here are some reasons and tips to help you turn your apprenticeship into a full-time job offer:

  • So many job candidates today, claim they can do a job or have a skill, yet few can actually do what they say. Many hiring managers in the construction industry look to do “trial runs” with many of their highly skilled labor to make sure they can “do the job.”  If offered an apprenticeship, take it – show you can do the work, accept advice from the mentor, and prove you will be an asset to the company.
  • In the construction industry, learning new skills can be a game changer in many ways. When you do an apprenticeship, you will have mentors that can help you learn new skills, or further your existing skill.  Not only will you get to meet great skills men this way, but you will have a mentor for life – a great way to keep your skill set fresh.
  • Learning new skills is not only great for you and the company, but you mostly likely will be able to increase your salary, benefits, and more. These new skills or improved skills will lead way to many other opportunities and advancements.

As you can see, an apprenticeship is beneficial in many ways to your career path.  Not only will it lead to a full-time job offer, but you will gain valuable experience along the way!
