2018 is here – are you ready to recruit for your construction company?  You have heard the stories over the last several months, how hiring in the construction industry will change this year, but do you understand what this all means to you and your recruiting and hiring efforts?  You may have many questions, and wonder why you can not continue as you have.

To succeed in your attraction, hiring, and retention efforts this year, you might want to consider some of these areas:

  • It is no secret that the construction industry differs from other industries when it comes to hiring efforts and the hiring process in general, however, that is about to change. Many hiring managers in this industry have learned that by following the same direction as some others, they are getting better results.  It is important that you identify the direction you will take in 2018, do the research needed, make the necessary changes, and stay consistent with what you choose.
  • As you begin your recruiting and hiring efforts in 2018, it is important your team and staff understand the direction you decided to take. They need to be able to support your direction.  Make sure that you educate your team, so they can support you and help avoid conflict by following old methods.
  • Sure, some of the changes you implement will show you proof right away they were the perfect choice, however, other changes will make you shake your head. You must continue to practice your new methods, and add tweaks as you go.  No process will be perfect, and you must determine what is best for your company.

So, the question remains the same – are you ready to recruit in 2018?  The construction industry has its challenges when it comes to hiring, however, some of these considerations may have you finding it just a little easier to attract, hire, and retain construction workers.
