As 2018 begins, many construction workers will sit and wonder what they should expect during their job hunt.  While the construction industry is still in need of and in search of good talent, the overall unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in a long time.  Simply put, this means it may be more difficult for you to find the job you want.

Left out of the normal hiring and recruiting traditions, construction hiring managers have usually had a different way of doing things.  Not a bad thing, but now they are finding that they must conform with some of the mainstream ideas to attract top talent, like you.  Here are a few things you should expect to see in the construction industry this year:

  • Many construction companies have learned the power of employee referral programs. This will make these programs take precedence in 2018, which is a win for you.  In the past, it was difficult to find any online employee review or information from current employees.  This will change.  Take advantage of this and do some research before you decide to interview for the next construction company.
  • Social media is here to stay; however, construction companies simply did not use it to their advantage in years past. That is going to change this year!  They will be ramping up their social media presence, which means it will be easier for you to find information about company culture, jobs they are offering, and more.
  • Most construction hiring managers have learned to embrace technology over the last few years, so expect to see more mobile-friendly information coming from construction hiring managers. This will include applications that can be completed on your smart phone, as well as, hiring managers texting.

While not every construction company will embrace these changes in 2018, many will give you what you have been looking for.
