It is no secret that compared to many other industries, the construction industry is behind in technology and the use of technology on the job.  As a job candidate in the construction industry, you must embrace technology and show potential employers how you can help them advance with technology.

While many construction companies are aware they need to start utilizing some the new technology available to them, they often hesitate because they fear their field staff will struggle in its use.  Here are a few ways you can embrace technology, and use it to land the job of your dreams:

  • Learn about the different types of technology available for the construction industry. Take classes or seminars where you will learn how to use this technology in your role.  Make sure to note this training on your resume, and talk about it often during your interview.
  • Use the technology daily. This will help you not only learn how to use appropriately, but will allow you to develop and find additional ways to improve work flow.  Continually use of the technology will help you become an expert in its use on the construction site, something hiring managers are looking for.
  • Once you are comfortable with the new technology, consider teaching others. Whether you teach a class or contact construction companies to consult with and teach their field staff, you are helping to get the word out, and again will be known as the expert.
  • Use social media to your advantage. Share information about the use of this technology.  Hiring managers will again take notice.
