Many industries such as mining, oil, agriculture and mapping have adopted the use of drones, which are unmanned aerial vehicles, to help efficiently complete tasks.  The construction field is also finding that drones can offer many benefits, including marketing, design and ongoing inspections.

Architects and engineers utilize drones as an essential part of virtual design. Drones provide efficient ways to analyze structural requirements. This data is the foundation for what eventually will become a building. The data can also be used to create 3D models and maps which can be packaged and sold.

Designers can use a layer by layer 3D rendering of building sites to show potential clients the progression of a project. These building information models can also determine if there are any possible design or site problems.

Drones can provide a reduction in safety risks. Traditionally survey and design tasks would require heavy machinery and a team of data scientists. Utilizing a drone can minimize the costly staffing issues while obtaining information in a safe manner which is always a top priority for construction companies.

From a marketing viewpoint, drones can obtain aerial photography that might otherwise not be possible or extremely costly. This gives companies that utilize drone technology an advantage in advertising their projects and services.

As drone technology continues to improve, more and more construction companies will take advantage of the benefits they have to offer.
