It is no secret that the millennial generation will be taking over the workforce very soon.  With more than 75 million of these workers hitting the working scene, it is important that construction companies and hiring managers learn to get a leg up on their recruiting and retention of these millennials.

Before you get left behind and start scrambling to find qualified workers, consider some of these tips in attracting, hiring, and retaining those from the millennial generation:

  • If you are not, you must learn to embrace and leverage technology. This will set you apart from your competition, as millennials will search for companies that use technology to its fullest extent.  Technology must become part of your brand!
  • Culture is extremely important to this generation of worker. Discover and find ways to adapt a culture within your company that will attract this generation.  Then you must use this culture to retain them once hired.
  • The millennial generation is extremely career focused. They will be looking to work for companies where they will have the opportunity to advance.  Make sure that you have programs in place to foster this type of career advancement, and use it as a marketing tool to attract workers.
  • Because this generation is tech savvy, they easily get bored, therefore, it is important that you allow cross training and other education programs. They want to constantly be learning new skills and be able to use those skills for advancement.
  • The benefits and perks requested by this generation will be different than any before. Make sure you understand and know what types of benefits and perks will matter.

You can get a leg up on your competition and attract, hire, and retain great employees from the millennial generation.  Consider some of these tips as you review and put together your recruiting and retention programs.
