As a construction hiring manager and recruiter, you have probably stayed away from using social media to help with your recruiting.  Many hiring managers in this industry have not seen the need or the benefit of using this type of social recruiting, however, in 2018 it will become one of the most popular ways of construction recruiting.

If you are ready to dip into social recruiting, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Facebook is one of the most widely used social media platforms today. The average person spends upwards of 50 minutes per day on it.  Make sure that all of your job postings are listed and more importantly, you should use Facebook to showcase your company’s culture.  Culture has become one of the most important aspects of a job search.
  • Is your construction company listed on Google? If not, you are missing out.  Many job candidates today will research your company before even applying, therefore, you must make it easy for them.  Make sure you are listed on Google.
  • No matter which social media platforms you use, it is imperative that you maintain and manage your company’s reputation online. This may include responding timely to posts on social media platforms, answering questions regarding positions you have posted, building the company’s culture online, and even responding to reviews that are not so nice.  Your online reputation will become the cornerstone of attracting candidates.

As social recruiting becomes more popular in the construction industry, you will need to make a decision about where you stand.  Will you use it to help attract, hire, and retain construction staff, or will you continue to do what you have done in the past?

Social recruiting will become the number one recruiting tool in 2018, and if you plan to embrace this change, you should know these few tips.
